Respect Paid to those who lost their lives in Conflict

100 years on from the end of the First World War AFC Sudbury commemorated those who had lost their lives in the First World War and all conflicts before the match with Basildon United. The Players and town Mayor entered the pitch to a guard of honour provided by the AFC Sudbury Youth Teams and they were followed by a Piper and Drums and Standard Bearers from the Royal British Legion.

Chairman of the Sudbury Branch of the Royal British Legion Mr Stuart Hume spoke of remembrance and the fact the First World War was meant to be the war to end all wars before AFC Sudbury paid its own tribute to those to had lost their lives in conflict while particularly remembering 4 players and the secretary of the then Sudbury Town who lost their lives during the First World War:

Captain Raymond Linay Armes
Lieutenant Colonel William Morris Armes (pictured above in back row white top)
Corporal Robert Charles Bristow
Private James William Moulton
Lance Corporal Harry William Malyon (pictured above middle row on right side)

Following the playing of the last post where the standards were lowered one minutes silence was held (pic here). A twitter video by Assistant Manager Lee Norfolk is available on the twitter link here.

Following the silence Reveille was played on the bugle and the Kohima Epitaph was read.

We would like to thank the Sudbury Branch of the British Legion for helping AFC Sudbury truly commemorate and remember on this extra special 100th Anniversary weekend and also Basildon United for supporting the extended pre-match and joining with us in the commemoration.
