Last Week At The AFC Sudbury Academy Was #nutritionweek

It has always been the intention of mine and Dave Cannon to teach the apprenticeship in a way that is REAL and relevant to the boys day to day life!

With over 35 years of teaching experience between us that includes numerous management positions we really do practice what we preach!

In a month where yet another Football and Education scheme has popped up, promising all sorts, I paused to think what a great experience our boys really DO get.. #nutritionweek was a huge success the level of learning that the boys had last week was massive. The outcome even more incredible!

Four different tasks set for four different groups, research/purchasing/food preparation for REAL situations / constructive arguments and debates as to why their meal was best and above all a great deal of ENJOYMENT made last week an absolute pleasure to be involved in.

For the record it was Jordan Blackwell's BLUE team who were crowned the first ever AFC Sudbury Academy master chef champions, with the judges deciding their Sausage Casserole was just that bit more special!

Amongst all this we did have to squeeze two more football matches in!

On Thursday evening it was TNU18 League action with Witham Town being the visitors to the Wardale Williams Stadium. Fresh from a High GI fast release Carbohydrate meal prepared by the RED team (3hrs before KO/well nearly) the team ran out 3-1 winners in a really end to end game! Our superior fitness and desire being a big factor in the result again!
Talking of desire and spirit, some may of noticed me having a 'heated discussion' with the opposition manager at half time! Basically I was not happy with his 'appeal' to the referee that Adam Dunnage was the 'last man' and the suggestion of a sending off! I don't often fall out with fellow managers but when I am teaching the players to stick together and look out for one another this was an instance for a discussion!
Anyway all was settled in the end and after the post match meal of Cottage Pie/Pasta Bake excellently prepared by the GREEN team all was forgotten!

Onto Saturday's game in the TND1 and the visit of Great Yarmouth Town FC.

Fresh from a carbo loading meal 24hrs before prepared by the YELLOW team, we were fully in the swing against a good team who certainly justified their position of second in the league and promotion favourites.
The game was again end to end with both keepers being kept busy all afternoon. The result probably turned on the straight red card awarded to the Tom Daniels of Yarmouth for a late tackle on Toby Mitchell.
It took us until the last few minutes to grab all three points when Ollie Dunlop turned in a Wayne Blackman pull back. The result was a little cruel on our visitors who had battled hard with ten men. However as so often this season this group keep going and the effort and belief is being rewarded with results. By 6pm Saturday we were all getting tucked into the trophy winning casserole sitting in 9th place with 19 points from 13 games!
That is all credit to this group of lads.
