Several choices of matches to watch at AFC this week.

Great weekend of football opportunity

Saturday was a day of opportunity for Academy players at AFC Sudbury, with the first team playing at Soham Town Rangers First team Manager Mark Morsley continued his faith in youth selecting no less than eight Academy boys for his squad. The team turned in a great performance winning 2-0 with Academy player Liam Bennett scoring his first goal for the first team

Suspensions, injuries and players away on trials presented more youngsters with an opportunity to impress in the Reserves match against Leiston. Danny Laws fielded probably one of the youngest teams ever to compete in the Thurlow Nunn first division match, the starting line up contained 2 sixteen year olds, 8 seventeen year olds and veteran Ollie Gravitt at the ripe old age of 18. The young guns really made the most of this chance quickly racing in to a 3-0 lead, at times playing some superb football that left Leiston chasing shadows, credit to Leiston as they then scored 2 goals via a penalty and a defensive mix up, but the second half belonged to the Sudbury boys running out comfortable winners 5 goals to 3.

This week we have 3 Academy teams playing home matches Tuesday night sees the A team in a local derby against Long Melford Reserves, on Thursday night another local derby with the U 18s are at home against Halstead Town. Followed by another match on Friday night when the A team are at home again against Clacton Reserves.

I would urge supporters to come down and watch these youngsters in action you will not be disappointed.
