Match Preview
Heybridge Swifts made a winning start last Saturday when they entertained Soham Town, they finished the match two nil winners with goals by ex AFC players Sam Bantick and Luke Callander. The Heybridge squad for this season features many old AFC faces, Ryan Henshaw, who with over 300 appearances for us was a firm name on every team sheet, he regularly appears in the end of season teams of the year. Fans favourite James Baker who won numerous awards whilst with us and also made over 300 appearances is currently the Swifts Captain, but following a cycling accident during the summer will be sidelined for a few more weeks. Sam Bantick, a scorer from the weekend for the swifts is also likely to feature, Sam played over 50 times in an AFC Sudbury shirt. Another scorer from the weekend Luke Callander will be well known to yellows fans after being with us for 87 appearances scoring in impressive 40 goals.
This season Heybridge are tipped to be in the hunt come April for another play off attempt if indeed they dont finish top. Heybridge lost out to Haringey Borough in last seasons play offs.

Speaking to the AFC Sudbury website during the week, AFC Sudbury Manager Mark Morsley said "Heybridge Swifts at home is one of the games that I looked for when the fixtures came out. On the back of last seasons successes they have been tipped by many as favourites for the championship. I’m sure as manager Jody Brown has gained plenty of experience in recent years he won’t take much notice of that but he has recruited well and I would expect them to be in the play off mix throughout the season. We had the perfect opening day victory at Tilbury last week with the 4-0 win, no more than we deserved. Their manager Joe Keith was very honest in his post match assessment telling his team it was a reality check and if you don’t match the oppositions work rate then having a quality, experienced team won’t matter. Our base requirement is to always work hard as that is the bare minimum I expect and then build from there. With no disrespect to Tilbury we will need to be at our best against what is an excellent Swifts side but they shouldn’t underestimate us either".

Come along and support the Yellows and lets hope the great team performance from Tilbury can continue.
